How to play ChameleonPlay
Last updated: 22 July 2026
ChameleonPlay is quick to pick up. This guide walks through a full round, both roles, the controls, and the tactics that separate a bush that survives from one that gets tagged in the first ten seconds.
Getting into a game
- Open the game — it loads straight in the browser, no download.
- Enter a name. You can play as a guest, or sign in with Google to save your XP, stats and unlocked items between sessions.
- Choose a mode: Quick Play drops you into the next public match, Private creates your own room, and Join Code lets you enter a friend's lobby code.
- Press Start Game. Empty slots fill with bots so a match is always ready.
The two roles
Hiders
Hiders win by surviving until the round timer hits zero. When the round begins you get a short grace period — while the seekers are blindfolded — to scatter, paint a disguise and settle into a hiding spot. Once the blindfold lifts, staying still and staying camouflaged is everything.
Seekers
Seekers win by tagging every hider before time runs out. You start blinded so hiders get a fair head start, then the map opens up and the hunt is on. Seekers have to read the scene — a shape that is slightly the wrong colour, an object that doesn't belong, a bush that just twitched.
Painting your camouflage
The paint tools let you colour the surface of your character directly. This is the heart of the game:
- Match the colours around your hiding spot — greens and browns near foliage, greys near stone and concrete, warm tones near wood.
- Break up your outline. A flat single colour still reads as a person; a mottled, patchy pattern blends into textured surfaces much better.
- Paint before you settle in, during the grace period, so you are ready the moment the seekers can see.
Poses
Freeze in a natural pose that fits the scenery — a crouched shape by a crate reads very differently from one standing in the open. Combined with the right paint, a good pose can make you almost invisible until a seeker is right on top of you.

Tips to win
As a hider
- Commit to one good disguise early rather than running around looking for the "perfect" spot after the blindfold lifts.
- Avoid the obvious corners — experienced seekers check them first.
- Hold still. Motion is the single biggest giveaway, even with flawless paint.
As a seeker
- Scan for colour and shape mismatches instead of walking the whole map at random.
- Watch for movement — a hider repositioning is the easiest tag you'll get.
- Cover open ground quickly, then slow down and study the cluttered areas where hiders blend in.
